Sarah Ireland wanted me to create the customer cloakroom at our showroom in Worcester. It was an area that she had intended to develop for some time and was very important as most clients will visit and use it.

Sarah wanted me to predict the next big trend and demonstrate to potential clients what can be achieved, but with budget in mind. As the cloakroom would need to be used by all clients of all ages and abilities, I felt it was important to consider accessibility without compromising on design. This would also be a good demonstration of how a ‘mixed ability’ space can still contain all the elements of a contemporary design statement.
Taking inspiration from fashion, furniture designs and magazine adverts, I felt that white was making a come back. White doesn’t have to be clinical or unimaginative. I wanted to show how glamorous and inviting it can be and I feel this was achieved through a combination of textures, shapes and materials.
The design includes a walk-in shower with built in seat, body jets and bespoke glass panel, wall hung WC with electronic flush, an enamelled steel basin and the latest in ‘white’ taps and shower fittings. I wanted it to be a complete sensory experience, where the user is ‘enclosed’ within the space like a secret ‘den’ or cave.
The ‘snow cave’ was designed by Sarah Ireland bathrooms designer, Lindsay Merchant. It was nominated for the KBB Review 2009 Young bathroom designer of the year awards. This is the industries most prestigious national award. The black tie event was held at London Excel on the 11th May 2009. There was some stiff completion as only the top designers in the country are nominated.
